Clients often like to ask how I got into the world of makeup and hairstyling. Honestly, 15 years ago I would have laughed if someone had said I would end up making people up and beautifying them. I was probably one of those people who was absolutely not interested in makeup. But how did I end up in the world of makeup after all? I’ve always had a great passion for traveling. Several modeling agencies saw potential model material in me. After two years of college, I managed to convince my mother that I should give modeling a chance. For many, this would have been a dream job, but I only thought about how to travel for free and discover the world.

Traveling in Europe was easy – you had to go to castings without makeup. However, in Asia, I had to do my own makeup, because there they couldn’t imagine how you would look with makeup. This was a bit incomprehensible to me, as each time we showed them our portfolio, which was full of photos with different makeups. Living in Asia, I first came into more contact with doing my own makeup. It didn’t come easily to me; I had no idea what I was doing, but every morning I woke up before the others and spent an hour on it.

Quite quickly, I realized that the quality of the makeup and hair world was very poor. Not to mention, fake products were used, which ruined many models facial skin. In the three years I traveled around modeling, I can count on the fingers of two hands the times when hygiene and makeup quality were very good. In other cases, it seemed that something was just being done, but they didn’t really know how. For example, I was convinced that eyeliner didn’t suit me, but it turned out it was always done wrong, not taking into account the shape of my eye. Or it seemed normal for someone to spray hairspray and only then curl the hair, and do it several times a day.

Sitting in the makeup chair every day, I was still fascinated by this creative process and wanted to learn more about the art of makeup.

After three years of traveling with modeling, I suddenly stopped it and decided to return to Estonia. I was sure I would not go back to working under someone else. So, I helped my mother with landscaping, weeding in the fresh air, and then suddenly wanted to learn makeup art, to be able to do makeup for myself. At that time I still did not believe that I would become a makeup artist. I enrolled in a course at Glow Makeup school. At first, it was a challenge because I had no previous experience or knowledge of makeup. But I did not give up and dedicated myself completely to learning. I learned different techniques, experimented with different products, and learned to understand different face types and their needs.

Over time, I started getting more practice and experience. I also attended a ten-month creative special effects makeup school. I worked with different models and clients and learned to listen to their wishes and needs. I had the opportunity to work on several different projects, from fashion shows to photo sessions. Each new experience gave me confidence and belief in my skills.

Today, I am proud of how far I have come. I have been able to do makeup for many wonderful people and helped them feel confident and beautiful. Makeup art is my passion and I can’t imagine doing anything else.

Now, when someone asks me how I became a makeup artist, I proudly answer that it was my love for travel and discovery that eventually led me to makeup art. It has been an exciting and enriching journey and I am grateful that I can be one of the few who can say that I do a job what I love.
